Where We Work
The following map highlights the countries in which the Foundation has had impact, with emphasis on our current priority countries.
- Priority Countries
Colombia
We are working in partnership with the government to support implementation of the 2016 historic peace accord that ended a 50-year civil war in Colombia. Our funding supports humanitarian demining; smallholder agricultural development and voluntary coca crop substitution; and investments in infrastructure in the country’s most marginalized regions.
El Salvador
We are committed to addressing the root causes of migration from the Northern Triangle countries of Central America to the U.S. by working regionally to address food insecurity and invest in sustainable economic development. In El Salvador, we are also working to improve citizen security, reform justice sector institutions, and reduce the high rates of violence and impunity.
Guatemala
We are committed to addressing the root causes of migration from the Northern Triangle countries of Central America to the U.S. by working regionally to address food insecurity and invest in sustainable economic development. In Guatemala, we focus on providing training on water-smart agriculture to increase resilience and productivity.
Honduras
We are committed to addressing the root causes of migration from the Northern Triangle countries of Central America to the U.S. by working regionally to address food insecurity and invest in sustainable economic development. In Honduras, we focus on providing training on water-smart agriculture to increase resilience and productivity.
Mexico
The Foundation works to improve food security in Mexico and address other drivers of forced migration into the U.S. from Mexico. Our efforts to combat human trafficking and improve farmworker conditions in the U.S. also complement our support for improving the quality of life for marginalized populations in Mexico.
Rwanda
In Rwanda, our projects put smallholder farmers at the center of development solutions to address food security challenges. We are working with the government to build the Rwanda Institute for Conservation Agriculture (RICA), a training institute designed to educate the next generation of Rwanda’s leaders and entrepreneurs in agriculture, and are investing in infrastructure and extension training at NAICO, a large-scale, smallholder-owned, center pivot irrigation project.
Ukraine
The Foundation scaled up our support for humanitarian relief and investments in food security and conflict mitigation immediately after Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, deploying nearly half of our annual grantmaking budget during the conflict’s first year. Our grantmaking includes direct food assistance and resources for internally displaced persons, refugees and schools; donations of farm equipment and agricultural assistance for small-scale producers; procurement and donation of electricity generators and windows to restore critical infrastructure; support for prosthetics and medical care for civilians; conflict mitigation tools and services including demining equipment and support for demining operations; large-scale purchases of Ukrainian grain for developing nations where food insecurity has been exacerbated by the conflict; and support for investigation and documentation of war crimes and crimes against humanity.
United States
Our grantmaking in the U.S. primarily supports public safety initiatives and agencies. We are also building a “Community Care Campus” in Decatur, IL to serve as a model for addiction treatment. Other U.S. work includes: educating farmers about conservation agriculture; raising awareness about hunger in the U.S.; and providing targeted community support where we have employees and operations.
